We started Lens Bloom in a borrowed room with two lights and a wall painted the wrong colour. Everything since has followed from that: work out what the picture wants, then remove whatever is arguing with it. No mood board survives first contact with a face.

Ember — lit in cyan and red, like a film still The studio takes on portraiture, editorial commissions and the occasional campaign. Sessions run long. We shoot on film when the light is patient and on digital when it is not, and we grade every frame by hand rather than by preset, because a preset has never once looked at the person in front of it.

2016

A borrowed room

Two lights, one wall, a door that had to stay shut while we worked.

2019

The move

North-facing windows on the fourth floor. We stopped fighting the weather and started using it.

2022

Film again

A second darkroom, mostly for ourselves. It changed how we shoot digital too.

2026

Where we are

Four of us, a hundred or so sessions a year, and the same rule about shutting the door.

The read

An hour of nothing but talking, before a single light is switched on. Most of the work happens here.

The build

One source, one modifier, one wall. We add only what the frame is asking for, and we ask it often.

The edit

Ten frames leave the studio. Graded by hand, one at a time, until the set holds together as a set.
